Aims and Objectives: As a part of IOI’s network, and in view of IOI’s general objectives, IOI (Cyprus) is established in order to support these objectives and widen IOI’s influence in the area.

 

General Functions: At present IOI (Cyprus) operates in the Department of Civil Engineering of the University, after a decision of the Rectoral Council  to Host this IOI Office (Dec.2008). The office is supported operationally by the University.

 

Areas of Interest or Special Partnerships: IOI (Cyprus) is well linked to most organizations on the island relevant to its operational areas, including sewage boards for collecting, treating and reusing domestic effluents in agriculture. Special interest is in the protection of coastal areas from manmade activities, like nutrient effluents and industrial wastes. Courses and training programs can be arranged, as well as participation in research projects in relevant areas related to, wastewater and sludge management, wastewater reuse, coastal zone protection, sustainable management of water resources and others. IOI (Cyprus) centre  is connected to and supported by a wide cluster of experts in its field. Currently participating in UNEP/GPA Partnership on Wastewater Management in ACP Countries.
