IOI - Egypt

Name: IOI (Egypt) Focal Point
Position : Associate Professor
Established: 2012
Host Institution: Marine Environment Division, NIOF, Egypt

As well as holding a post as associate professor in the Marine Environment Division in the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries, I have an interest in the field of ocean protection and governance, as well as marine environment and climate change issues.

The establishment of an IOI Focal Point in Egypt was found to be of great benefit in terms of linkage with the various alumni coming from the country - the focal point is an alumnus of the IOI training program in Regional Ocean Governance for the Mediterranean, Black, Baltic and Caspian Seas (Malta, 2011).

One of the focal point's recent and important activities was the establishment of the IOI Alumni Chapter in Egypt in February, 2012.  Plans are already in place for activities for year 2012, and there are already outlines for our long term activities in 2013-2015.

An aim is to exchange knowledge and experience with other members of the IOI network in order to focus on the best plan of activities. The principal theme of activities for the IOI Focal Point of Egypt is to forge links with all the communities related to the ocean and seas in Egypt (scientific, academic, population, fishermen, etc.) as well as with regional areas along the Mediterranean and Red sea coasts. Also, exchanges of experiences, ideas and suggestions at international levels are a must.
