Antonella Vassallo, Managing Director, IOI, was invited to contribute to this three day conference on Innovation in Marine and Maritime Sustainable Developments: Research and Applications, organised by the University of Malta Maritime Platform at the Valletta Campus, Valletta, Malta. This conference attracted local and international experts, including academics, researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers and provided a forum to share innovative solutions in a fast-changing world.
In her contribution as panellist in the Environment Theme Panel Discussion, A Vassallo addressed the thematics of ocean governance knowledge and preparation that are an essential component of evidence based policy-making in ocean and sustainability, illustrating the delivery with some examples of successful case studies from the region and from IOI’s long standing experience in providing capacity development and fostering leadership in early career ocean professionals.
The conference achieved its stated goal to bring together a rich programme of oral and poster presentations presenting a selection of the latest research in applied innovation that can serve to address some of the most pressing concerns in the marine and coastal realm. Over 190 authors contributed towards this conference from over 25 institutions across 19 countries, including Malta, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Sweden, Greece, UK, US, Israel, Albania, Bulgaria, Latvia, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria.
