In this course, basic concepts in oceanography will be discussed and oceanographic phenomena of particular interest to the Central American region will be reviewed so that participants can act in a positive way to preserve our Ocean and have the necessary tools to make informed decisions on issues related to the sea that affect the region. The course will cover topics such as oceanographic concepts, variability of the ocean and atmosphere, hydrography of the Eastern Pacific, basic oceanographic data processing software, general circulation of the Eastern Pacific, mesoscale fronts and eddies, biological aspects of the Central American Pacific, oceanographic features of the Caribbean, zooplankton in the Eastern Tropical Pacific, among other topics. Synchronous and asynchronous talks will be presented using remote platforms to reach most of the audience in the region.

En este curso se discutirán conceptos básicos en oceanografía y se revisarán fenómenos oceanográficos de particular interés para la región centroamericana para que los participantes puedan actuar de manera positiva para preservar nuestro Océano y cuenten con las herramientas necesarias para tomar decisiones informadas en temas relacionados con el mar que afectan a la región. El curso cubrirá temas como conceptos oceanográficos, variabilidad del océano y la atmósfera, hidrografía del Pacífico Oriental, software básico de procesamiento de datos oceanográficos, circulación general del Pacífico Oriental, frentes y remolinos de mesoescala, aspectos biológicos del Pacífico Centroamericano, características oceanográficas del Caribe, zooplancton en el Pacífico Oriental Tropical, entre otros temas. Se presentarán charlas sincrónicas y asincrónicas utilizando plataformas remotas para llegar a la mayor parte de la audiencia de la región.
