Eligibility of the Applicants  

This course is designed primarily for the Eastern Cape participants; however, it is also open to participants living and working within South Africa with an interest in the ocean, ocean literacy, and ocean opportunities, including provincial government and Municipal officials, councillors, non-governmental organisations, Non -Profit Organisations, business, labour, unemployed graduates, TVET Learners and university Students. etc.

We need a healthy Ocean to survive. But our Ocean is in trouble, and so are we. By providing locally relevant, entry-level online education modules, the IOI Ocean Academy will enable interested laypersons to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to understand the complexities of the ocean and its local and global effects, now and in a changing future, laying the foundations for more informed understanding and personal daily decision-making. Different stakeholders in the eastern cape will be able to share the knowledge gained from the module to marginalised communities and ensure that they effectively participate on ocean economic programmes that are aimed at improving their livelihood.

Lenkqubo izakuseka iziseko  zolwazi oluzakuncedisa imihla ngemihla kwizigqibo ngabasemagunyeni kunye neziqu.  Intlobo zabantu ezithathe inxaxheba empumakoloni zizakwabelana ngolwazi olufumaneka kwezizifundo kunye nabantu abangahoyekanga abasokolayo emaphandleni ukuze bathathe inxaxheba nabo kwezoqoqosho ngolwandle ezinegalelo kutshintsho lwempilo zabo ngokwakha imisebezi yesigxina.

• Gain a basic understanding of the ocean: the resources and services it provides, the threats to the ocean, how to live in a more sustainable way with the Ocean;
• Learn about the importance of ocean governance, sustainable and equitable human use, the principle of the common heritage of humankind, respecting the needs of future generations, all in a locally relevant context;
• Be empowered to become more active locally as stakeholders to positively influence our communities and beyond;
• Be able to identify priority issues, trends and future challenges in ocean governance, locally and globally.

• Ukufumana ulwazi oluncinane ngezifundo ngolwandle, izixhobo kunye nenkonzo eziziswa yilenkqubo, ingxaki ezijongene nolwandle , nendlela zokuphila ngohlobo olukumgangatho wesigxina kunye  nenkqubo nolwandle;
• Ukufunda ngokubaluleka kokuphatha ngemigaqo yokulawulwa kwezelwandle, isigxina, ngokulingana, uhlobo lokusetyenziswa nagabantu, imithetho efanayo yencubeko yabant, ukuhlonipha imfuno zesisukulwana esizayo;
• Ukuxhotyiswa  ngokubaluleka bokuthatha inxaxheba kwingingqi zasemakhaya njengamalungu anexanduva  yokufaka umdla ekuhlaleni nakubanye abanti ngaphandle;
• Babe nolwazi lokuchonga  imiba ebalulekileyo, iziganeko kwakunye nengxaki esizakujongana nazo kwilixa elizayo ngokuphatha ngokwasemgaqweni kwelwandle fmzantsi aAfrica nakuye namanye amazwe ehlabathi.
