Eligibility of the Applicants
The programme welcomes participation from individuals interested in learning about the ocean, including members of Women's Groups and Community Organisations, Indigenous Communities, Beach Management Units (BMU) leaders and representatives, Youth representatives, Government Officials, Extension Workers, Academia and Research Institutions, Environmental NGOs, Civil Society Organisations, Educators, and Trainers. Participants selected for the course are expected to fully commit to attending and actively participate throughout the entire duration of the course. Additionally, access to a computer, laptop, or phone with internet connectivity is required to complete all course activities effectively.

This course focuses on Marine Ecosystem Services and Their Role in Coastal Livelihoods in Kenya. Its core objective is to equip participants with an understanding of how marine ecosystems, through the services they provide, support coastal economies, cultural heritage, food systems, and environmental resilience. The program covers key thematic areas, including the classification and functions of ecosystem services, key coastal habitats such as mangroves, coral reefs, and seagrass beds, human-induced threats to marine ecosystems, and strategies for conservation and sustainable use. It also explores ocean governance frameworks, locally-led stewardship initiatives, and the integration of indigenous knowledge in marine resource management. By the end of the course, participants will be well-prepared to promote the protection and sustainable utilization of marine ecosystem services as a foundation for thriving and resilient coastal communities in Kenya.
Kozi hii inajikita katika Huduma za Mifumo ya Ikolojia ya Baharini na Nafasi Yake katika Maisha ya Pwani Nchini Kenya. Lengo kuu ni kuwawezesha washiriki kupata uelewa wa kina kuhusu jinsi mifumo ya ikolojia ya baharini inavyotoa huduma muhimu, inavyounga mkono uchumi wa pwani, urithi wa kitamaduni, mifumo ya chakula, na ustahimilivu wa mazingira.Mpango huu unashughulikia maeneo muhimu ya mada, yakiwemo uainishaji na kazi za huduma za ikolojia, makazi muhimu ya pwani kama vile mikoko, miamba ya matumbawe, na nyasi baharini, vitisho vinavyosababishwa na shughuli za binadamu kwa mifumo ya baharini, na mikakati ya uhifadhi na matumizi endelevu.Pia unachunguza mifumo ya utawala wa bahari, juhudi za uongozi wa jamii za kienyeji, na ujumuishaji wa maarifa ya asili katika usimamizi wa rasilimali za baharini. Kufikia mwisho wa kozi, washiriki watakuwa na uwezo wa kuendeleza ulinzi na matumizi endelevu ya huduma za mifumo ya ikolojia ya baharini kama msingi wa jamii za pwani zinazostawi na kustahimili mabadiliko.
