This July marked a major milestone for the International Ocean Institute and its partners in the Caspian region. The 10th edition of the Training Programme was held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, bringing together 16 participants from countries surrounding the Caspian Sea.
Offered by IOI Thailand in partnership with the Marine Resources Conservation Division, Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) of the Government of Thailand, the Programme provided a deep insight into global ocean governance, its history and its instruments, with a focus on regional frameworks, more particularly the Southeast Asian seas and the Indian Ocean.
89 participants - 24 in-person and 65 online - from diverse academic, policy, and community backgrounds attended this course which combined lectures, tutorials, and interactive exercises on sustainability science, impact pathways, theories of change, and stakeholder engagement.
IOI Canada was honoured to be invited to provide ocean governance training for the NF-POGO Centre of Excellence, which is currently hosted by the Ocean Frontier Institute.
Organised by the ECOP Programme’s Ocean Literacy Task Team with support from 12 partner organisations, including the IOI, the hackathon aimed to make the High Seas Treaty (BBNJ Agreement) more accessible, relatable, and urgent through the power of video.
Registrations are now open for the free IOI Ocean Academy online Ocean Literacy modules to be delivered in Spanish, French, Urdu and Ewe. More than 80 participants successfully completed IOI Ocean Academy modules in July and August.
