The IOI Chile Training Centre was formally set up via an MOU with the Universidad Autónoma de Chile. IOI alumnus (Malta 2014) and former IOI Chile Focal Point, Dr Nicolás OJEDA, is the Director. The centre will offer an IOI training Programme on Ocean Governance starting in 2025.
The IOI Ocean Academy global programme has been endorsed by the IOC Executive Secretary as a Decade Action, as a project forming part of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030.
The four week IOI Thailand Ocean Governance Training Programme was successfully completed in July. The goal of this one-month training was to provide a deep insight into the global ocean governance with a focus on regional ocean governance frameworks, more particularly the Southeast Asian seas and the Indian Ocean.
The IOI Centres and Focal Points celebrated World Oceans Day once again this year, with events focussing on the thematic “Awaken New Depths” held globally to commemorate this day and most of all to continue to promote awareness around the world about the importance of protecting our Ocean.
